Our upcoming event with Bryan Mattimore, the author of the just published book, Ideas Stormers: How to Lead and Inspire Creative Breakthroughs, really got me thinking about the idea of ideas. Does that make sense? It’s probably a bit metaphysical, but what I mean is; what is the essence of ideas and why does it seem to permeate more in some folks than others? Is it something that is only harnessed by creative professionals or is it something that can be taught to anyone? Why do some folks seem to have a non-stop flow of amazing ideas, and why do too many of us consider ourselves, for lack of better words, idea constipated?
I remember what author Richard Florida stated in his book, The Rise of the Creative Class, about ideas. He said that ideas and the people who have them will be seen as more economically valuable in this new economy. The ability for individuals, teams and organizations to be able to generate ideas is the “competitive edge.” Ideas are the new normal. It’s not what you make but the thought that goes into it that makes all the difference. You don’t even have to be the producer but rather the creator to succeed. Apple is a great example. It created the iPhone, but it is assembled in China. And Apple is getting the lion’s share of the profits. There is no arguing that Apple has differentiated itself by its big Ideas.
I look forward to Bryan’s presentation and receiving my signed copy of his just released book at our upcoming FCCA event. I can’t wait to learn the secrets of the Idea Stormers!
I hope to see you there!
