What is the FCPRA?
Founded in 1958, the Fairfield County Public Relations Association (FCPRA) is the top networking organization for public relations, marketing and communications pros who live and/or work in Fairfield and Westchester counties. (In fact, FCPRA is the oldest independent regional organization that’s dedicated to advancing the comms profession.) We want to help members enrich their careers and reach their professional goals. We’ve currently got more than 100 members who share contacts and ideas, and retool their brains and skills at informative and provocative monthly events.
Give me some highlights.
Our programs explore emerging trends, featuring leading executives and the best speakers in the industry. At the FCPRA annual meeting in June 2011, just to give one example, Julia Hood, president of the Arthur W. Page Society (PR’s most prestigious professional organization for CEOs), was our keynote speaker. One of her more thought-provoking topics was that human resources is creeping into the public relations discipline, making many of us rethink what is meant by “internal communications.”
Other recent programs covered mobile marketing success, how to find good clients and know what they want to buy, crisis preparedness, the business case for comedy in your media, how to effectively communicate your CSR and green initiatives, the secrets of doing business in the age of social media, how to generate publicity with amazing special events, the ROI of real-time marketing and PR, and what it takes to be a CCO.
And sometimes, we meet purely to kick back and talk shop.

- Individual membership: $65. Sign up for one event and that event is FREE with a new FCPRA membership ($65). Members: Your seventh meeting is free with the Frequent Meeting Card.
- Company membership:
- Gold Program/Member Sponsor: $500. Allows for five employees to attend monthly programs, and you get top listing of your company logo on program invitations emailed weekly to more than 1,000 area communications professionals—plus signage on the event poster.
- Silver Program/Member Sponsor: $300. Allows for three employees to attend monthly programs and you get your company logo listed on program invitations emailed weekly to more than 1,000 area communications professionals—plus signage on the event poster.

Who are FCPRA members?
At our events, you’ll see professionals who are responsible for public relations, advertising, corporate communications, marketing, market research and media in agencies, corporations, nonprofits and sole practices in Fairfield County, Conn., and Westchester County, N.Y., plus people in those fields who commute away from the area. As our “Creative Corridor” continues to develop and thrive, we’re looking forward to welcoming more people who make the decision to work on their own in this area or who join organizations embedded in the corridor and its surroundings.
Can I jump right in?
All members are invited to all FCPRA functions, and all are qualified for election to the board of directors, to become officers and to serve on committees. We send a questionnaire to each new member asking for his or her interests and preferences for committee involvement. Each committee chair welcomes volunteers.
Tell me about the FCPRA committees.
Programs Committee: This committee gives members an opportunity to learn about topics relevant to our jobs as communicators. Because program revenue is a primary source of funding for the association, we must identify and secure speakers who are engaging leaders in their field. Roles and responsibilities of committee members include: 1) Identify top-tier speakers; 2) Schedule monthly membership programs and two to three “vendor” meetings; 3) Secure venue; 4) Maintain a dialogue with a speaker throughout planning, get relevant information from him/her, and send those details and any others to the Communications & Publicity Committee. Communications & Publicity Committee: This committee generates awareness of FCPRA and its mission and communicates to members. Roles and responsibilities of committee members include: 1) Create and distribute press releases to area media to promote local events, association news and advocacy; 2) Use social media as another means of communication regarding FCPRA events, news, etc.; 3) Create and review content related to communication for board president, website, social media, etc. For questions and to join, contact committee chair Melissa LoParco, Catalyst Marketing Communications (MLoParco@catalystmc.com).
Membership Committee: This committee is tasked with recruiting new members and maintaining current membership. Roles and responsibilities of committee members include: 1) Recruit new members—individuals, corporations and commuters; 2) Create and implement a plan to renew members; 3) Work with the FCPRA administrator to contact members to renew their membership; 4) At all monthly programs, work to recruit and greet new members. Website Committee: This committee works to create, post and maintain content for the FCPRA website (www.fcpra.org). Roles and responsibilities of committee members include: 1) Create and update all website content; 2) Work with the Communications & Publicity Committee to ensure FCPRA branding and messaging; 3) Be timely with posting all content; 4) Maintain all necessary background programming to keep the site current. I paid for an event but can’t attend. Help!
Here is FCPRA’s limited-refund policy: A cancellation made to the FCPRA contact person in charge of reservations (Randy Savicky, FCPRA administrator, firstname.lastname@example.org) no less than 24 hours before the event’s starting time will receive a credit good for admission to a future FCPRA event within three months of the date of the original event. If the new event has a higher admission price, you will be responsible for paying the difference; no refund will be made in the case of a lower admission price.
